OLPC Foundation Has New Competitor

Who is that? Intel & Asus. Yes they targeting developing world too. The cheap laptops has codename Asus Eee PC & Intel Classmate. Asus Eee PC is an ultra small and light laptop dedicated for Internet related tasks. Its processor and chipset supplied by Intel. The Eee PC compatible with Linux as well as Windows XP. Other main features include 512MB memory, 7-inch display, and Flash drive storage 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB capacity. It weigh only 0.89kg and the price set around $200. The Eee PC & Intel Classmate come together to join the race of cheap laptop mass production.

As reported by bbc.co.uk, the Intel/Asus move has been slammed by OLPC’s head, Professor Negroponte. He has accused Intel of trying to undermine his initiative. But Intel spokesman,George Alfs denied it, “We are going to need hundreds of millions of machines and that’s going to take a whole industry to provide. There is plenty of room for numerous vendors”. – Trendy Gadget
